A huge congratulations to our very own Sergeant Brian Smith, who received the Gold Award for Uncommon Valor from the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police last week!

Sergeant Smith received this award on May 25th at the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police Valor Awards banquet in Manhattan, KS. These awards honor activities, accomplishments, and performance of officers and/or employees which occurred during the 2021 calendar year.

Sergeant Smith responded to an open line 911 call regarding a disturbance in progress with a weapon. When confronted, the suspect was noncompliant, and attempted to harm Sergeant Smith and then attempted to take his own life. Sergeant Smith stopped the suspect and rendered aid.

Thank you for your fantastic, brave service, Sergeant Smith! The City is lucky to have you!
