On May 2, 2022, the Augusta City Council approved Ordinance No. 2186 allowing the use of golf carts, micro-utility trucks, and work-site utility vehicles on City streets, subject to regulations.

Before being operated on any public highway, street, road, or alley within the corporate limits of Augusta, all special purpose vehicles must be registered with the City of Augusta and display a valid City-issued registration decal or tag on the rear of the vehicle. You can apply for registration for a special purpose vehicle at the Augusta Public Safety Department (2100 North Ohio Street) on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 AM -12:00 PM and 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM. Initial registration will also require an inspection of your special purpose vehicle.
