City of Augusta Receives $260,000 CDBG Grant for New Fire Engine

Do you live in Augusta and remember filling out an income survey that was mailed out in the Spring of 2021? The City of Augusta wants to thank you! Your participation in that survey allowed the City to submit an application to the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program last October for funding to replace an old fire engine, and we have some great news to share!

On February 10, 2022, Governor Laura Kelly announced that the City of Augusta has been awarded a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) of $260,000 to be used towards the purchase of a new fire engine, which will replace one that is 40 years old. This grant funding should cover approximately 50% of the cost, with the remaining funding coming out of the City’s Public Safety Equipment Reserve Fund.  This engine will become the “first-out” unit for fire responses.

Mayor Mike Rawlings and City Manager Josh Shaw attended the ceremony and accepted the grant award check from Governor Kelly.

Once again, thank you to all our residents for helping us attain this funding. The CDBG grant will lessen the impact of the fire engine purchase on our budget and, by extension, our taxpayers.
