***UPDATED*** SOUTH OHIO STREET CONSTRUCTION UPDATE – WATER MAIN WORK CHANGED TO OVERNIGHT ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 8th, 2017
Construction on the South Ohio Street Project has been delayed due to a conflict between a newly installed storm sewer and an existing 12-inch water main. The city has reviewed potential solutions with the utility contractor – Dondlinger Construction – and determined that the 12-inch water main must be lowered in order to remove this conflict. This action requires the water main to be shut down for approximately 10-12 hours.
The 12-inch water main in question is the primary transmission line for the city’s water towers and the areas of town north of Main Street. To minimize the impact to residents and businesses, this utility work will be conducted during the overnight hours from approximately 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. beginning Tuesday, August 8th. The contractor was originally going to perform this work on Thursday, August 3rd, but has shifted the date to Tuesday, August 8th (weather contingent).
The city does not anticipate that the water main work will result in a water outage, but customers will likely experience lower than normal water pressure Tuesday night and Wednesday. In order to maximize storage in the water towers and distribution system leading up to next Tuesday night’s repair, the city will be closing the splash pad at Shryock Park for the day on Tuesday, August 8th. Signage regarding the splash pad closure will be posted on site.
